Kasabian have said that their new album is a "real fuck you" to critics of the band.

The Leicester band appear on the cover of this week's NME, which is on newsstands or available digitally now. They top a rundown of 100 albums to look forward to in 2014 containing exclusive studio reports and photos.

The band will release their as yet untitled new album later this year and Serge Pizzorno and Tom Meighan have revealed to NME that they think is an answer to anyone who has doubted them in the past. "The album is a real 'fuck you' to anyone who ever dares criticise or snarl at us, and say we can't do music like this," frontman Meighan says. "It's a real fucking 'up yours'. There are a lot of bands who try and do this kind of music but fail because they've got no songs."

"The process starts simple. Serge gets a demo and then we build on it, and then he mutates it with rocket fuel and liquid nitrogen and it's crisp and it's crack and it's smack," says Meighan of the steps taken to make a Kasabian song. "It's a dangerous, dangerous, dangerous, dangerous drug we've created. I can't get my head around it. It's rock 'n' roll, it's got the rawness and it's edgy, but it's gone back to electronics and we've gone beyond leftfield."

Promising to hit the road for live shows around the album later in 2014, Meighan continues: "This is beyond anything we've ever done. We've gone hard, but this is beyond hard. This is hardcore. We want to put it out there and let people stew on it. Let them worry about it. Then tour the motherfucking hell out of it."

Earlier this week it was revealed that a track on the album contains lyrical reference to last year's horsemeat scandal, in which foods advertised as containing beef on sale in Britain and Europe were found to contain horse meat. The track in question, 'Ezz-Ehh' contains the lyrics "Horsemeat in the burgers, people commit murders, everyone’s on bugle, we’re being watched by Google."
