Kate Nash says it’s “weird” that she is on the verge of her first ever Top Ten hit.
The singer’s song ’Foundations’ is currently sitting at Number Two in the mid-week chart, meaning she should be on course for a Top Ten finish come Sunday night (July 1).
Speaking to NME.COM, Nash said she found her impending chart glory a little bit odd.
“It’s mental I can’t believe how high it is at the moment. I can’t believe it really,” she declared. “Sometimes I get really excited and sometimes I don’t really have my head around it, it’s so weird. When someone goes you’re Number Two in the mid-week charts, I’m like ‘What?’ It’s really weird to be so high in the charts, isn’t it? I’m just like a normal person.”
Nash admitted it had been a whirlwind week, having played Glastonbury at the weekend, she’s spent the last five days finishing off her debut album in the studio.
“I’m just so proud. I’ve been non-stop for a long time,” she explained. “I’ve been in the studio and then I went on tour for three weeks, then I did Wireless and Glastonbury. I got home on Sunday night (June 24) from Glastonbury and then Monday morning I was back in the studio finishing off the album all week, working till three in the morning each night. I’m in a daze a bit, I’m a little bit loopy! I don’t know what’s going on and I’m in the charts!”
The singer who plays an instore set at London record shop Pure Groove this afternoon (June 29) at 5pm, before playing the Stockholm Festival tomorrow (30), said she will be at home listening to the chart to see where ’Foundation’ ends up in the countdown.
“I’m playing a gig in Sweden on Saturday so I should have just got home by the time they announce the chart,” said Nash. “It’s really exciting. If we do well I might crack open a bottle of champagne, maybe some cake! (laughs) it will be fun. It’s very weird.”
