Katy Perry, Adele and Kanye West lead MTV Video Music Awards nominations

Foo Fighters, Foster The People and Beastie Boys are also in the running

Katy Perry, Adele and Kanye West lead the field in this year's MTV Video Music Awards nominations.

Perry has nine nods at this year's awards, which take place at Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre on August 28, while Adele has seven nominations for her single 'Rolling In The Deep'.

Lady Gaga, Eminem and Beyonce are also up for three awards each respectively, reports MTV.com.



Elsewhere, Foster The People are also up for two nominations - Best Rock Video and Best New Artist for the video for their single 'Pumped Up Kicks'.

Other nominations in the new artist category include Odd Future frontman Tyler, The Creator for 'Yonkers', Wiz Khalifa, Big Sean and hip-hop singer Kreayshawn.

Foo Fighters are also in the running for Best Rock Video with 'Walk' alongside Mumford and Sons, Cage The Elephant and The Black Keys.

Beastie Boys meanwhile are vying for Video Of The Year with 'Make Some Noise' alongside Adele, Tyler, The Creator, Katy Perry and Bruno Mars.
