Katy Perry has expressed an interest in appearing in a musical version of '90s film Clueless, Rolling Stone reports.

The singer has apparently told writer and director Amy Heckerling that she would be interested in taking up the lead role of Cher in the Broadway production.

"Katy Perry has expressed interest, and I love her to death," Heckerling explained. Considering Perry's busy schedule, she added: "Maybe Iggy [Azalea] would do it!" The Australian rapper has recently parodied the film in the video for her single 'Fancy'.

Speaking about Azalea's homage to the movie, Heckerling said: "It looked like they had more money for the video than I had for the movie. But I was extremely flattered and I thought she was amazing. And whoever did the costumes, I don’t know how they did that."

The director also revealed that the musical of Clueless is in its "really, really early" stages although the lyrics are complete.
