Keane 'ignore the rules of good taste' for third album

Band reveal all about 'Under The Iron Sea' follow-up

Keane have revealed details about their new album.

Called 'Perfect Symmetry', the album will be released on October 13.

In a posting on their official website, the band revealed that the album was recorded in various locations, namely Paris, Berlin, London and LA.

"We started out in Paris, where Jon Brion (collaborator) inspired us to create first and think later," they explained in the post.

"We took the night train to Berlin, where everything came together in an avalanche of experimentation that took us all by surprise; where we made a pact with [producer] Stuart Price to ignore the rules of good taste; where we were hypnotised by Marlene Dietrich and spent many a long night throwing ideas around in the crumbling 'Cabaret'-esque glamour of our favourite bar."

They added: "We've hidden ourselves away in the depths of the English countryside, recorded a new track in London at the last possible moment, and now we're in Los Angeles tying up the loose ends."

The album is the band's follow-up to 2006's 'Under The Iron Sea'.

Surely listening to this drab, boring band is the height of bad taste.

Am I not right in believing that they have been doing that since the moment they formed?...

Why do Keane bother? Have they not realised they are terrible?

I think it's because they know there's plenty of mums still out there who'll buy their records.

God the muppets are quick in getting there comments in, get your ears checked lads. I can't wait for this, one of the greatest and most unique bands on the planet. I think the album will be more like Under The Iron Sea than Hopes And Fears but all in all exiting times ahead. It comes out a week after Oasis and with rumoured releases from Razorlight, Snow Patrol and Kasabian also in October, make no mistake that October is THE month for music.

tom chaplin has one of the most recognizable voices in the british scene...lookin' forward to the new stuff, beautiful music....

Liked Hopes and Fears but find Under the Iron Sea unlistenable (my wife and I tried again at the weekend, didn't make it past the first track). THE album of the autumn though will surely be Mogwai.

Please tell me how Keane are unique!

Well said Soundedd. Keane are a brilliant band and this could well be one of the year's best albums.

the first Keane album reminds me of when I had mumps at 24. I'm not saying it's their fault, I'm just saying that they remind me of being ill. I'm sure they'll make a better contribution to music than, say, the next Razorlight, Joe Lean and the Ting Tings records.

I can only assume Soundedd is taking the piss because aside from hillariously claiming Keane to be "one of the greatest and most unique bands on the planet" he/she is getting excited about releases from three of the most piss poor excuses for bands around right now, Razorlight, Snow Patrol and Kasabian!!!!

Wrong. They're absolute pap. I wonder how the two diametrically opposed parts of your brain that allow to appreciate the brilliance of Maximo and the tripe of Keane manage to exist simultaneously...

Keane have been "ignoring the rules of good taste" from day 1. NME please stop encouraging them by writing about them, it would be far nicer for them to just slip away silently. haha

To nalaknip, Keane are unique in lots of ways, for a start the obvious one is the fact that the band to not use guitars, I would say there the only band on my ipod not to, theres no one vocally as relaxing as Mr Tom Chaplin, and well theres no one who provided the perfectly crafted Keane style of song. Amazing band, to be honest why do people who don't like them i.e the first four comments post on here, havn't you got anything better to do lads, get off the dole and find a job rather than sitting on NME slagging off the best bands in the world such as Oasis, Coldplay, Keane etc etc.

Snow Patrol and Razorlight to release new material in October? My Autumn is ruined. Razorlight are one of the worst bands in the world, and Snow Patrol are just radio-dominating dullards.

Aug 1, 2008

rubbersoul7 well done lad well done, with that comment you have officially become one of the biggest complete and utter morons in musical history. There should be a rule on NME, if you slag off bands you should post who you like so we can laugh at you. Razorlight are brilliant, if i'd wrote In The Morning and America I would be fucking buzzing. Snow Patrol and Keane, two of the most relaxing bands to listen to and Kasabian, a lads rock band at it's very very finest so rubbersoul time for you to do one mate and go listen to your Ting Tings CD and Dig Out You Soul this October.

Soundedd, calm down mate, are you related to a member of Keane or something? Isn't everyone entitled to their opinion? Firstly, in regards to your earlier comment, I have a job thank you very much, a very decent one at that too, some people do actually have internet access at work you know. Secondly, I never slagged off Oasis, I quite like them actually and will be getting the new album upon release, but they are not one of the best bands in the world, far, far from it in fact. And whats with the Ting Tings comment? Just because I voiced my displeasure with Keane you think I must like the Ting Tings? I can't fucking stand them but i'd still rather listen to them than bloody Keane! If you would be buzzing after writing 'In The Morning' and 'America' then it would be obvious that you're not setting yourself very high standards at all. And don't get me started on Kasabian.

Soundedd! You really are a tool. First of all I happen to be in full time employment and have been for some 18 years now. Secondly if Keane are so amazing because they dont use a guitarist then why did they strive to achieve a guitar style effect on there Is It Any Wonder single. I remember how Tim Rice Oxley was so happy when he told people who thought it was a guitar that it was actually a sophisticated synthesizer effect! What a knob! You shouldnt piegonhole people who use this site as all dole scrounging layabouts. Then I wont feel the need to pigeonhole you as a typical Keane fan. A tosser.

HaHa Rubbersoul7 my apologies. It's just it does do my nut when I see users slating bands like Oasis and they saying that Ting Tings are revolutional, thats all, I remember one comment a long while back where one user said that Caujun Dance Party were the best band since the Smiths, you should be shot for comments like that. My apologies for the moron comment. As for Nalaknip, would be great if you were to post a list of bands you listen to chap.....

I thought Keane have ignored the rules of good taste for the other albums too...

I think I dropped something similar to 'Everybody's Changing' in my toilet this morning, mm, funny thing that. nalaknip & rubbersoul, I couldn't agree more if I was the terribly agreeable Tim Rice Oxley himself.

Blimey. Comment war or wot? Anyway, Keane's first album was very good, their second was shit. Sorted. (Although it was difficult to follow up such a good first album.)

I think Keane makes pretty decent music. Different individuals, different tastes. No need to get your knicers in a twist. Personally I'm looking forward to this.

d_lee26

Aug 4, 2008

All the people laying in to Keane obviously don't recognize great music when they hear it. Also, you're obviously the boring ones that you have to call them drab and boring. Can't wait to see what album 3 will be like!

Jonny_Will

Aug 4, 2008

lol its all about opinion ladies and gents, soundedd says Chaplin's voice is "relaxing". I would personally say it's "BORING" or "ANNOYING". haha. And the only albums you should look forward to (in my opinion) are Oasis and Doves. (And Kasabian if it is out this year).

ape_dosmil

Aug 4, 2008

Soundedd, the fact that Keane are probably the only band on your ipod not to use guitars says far more about your limited taste in, and knowledge of music than it does Keane's uniqueness as a band.I know there's no accounting for taste but how anyone can be even remotely excited at the prospect of new Keane, Razorlight and Snow Patrol records is beyond me. Honest to god they are collectively about as exciting as dry toast.

Can you get more middle-class than Keane?Only people with an acre of land and tweed jackets with suede elbows could ever listen to 'Somewhere only we know' and deem it 'amazing'.

millzymitosis

semi_mental, it is unfortunate that you still live with your mother but at least she has good taste!

Oh dear, I hate the comments that preach tollerance yet are just as ill informed and assuming as the comment before. To me I can see why people might like Keane, but their no coldplay. The albums are all full of filler bar the singles. They've had some great moments, Bedshaped and A Bad Dream for example. But their albums tend to be too long and too full of fluffy meaningless stuff, with a hard hitting single now and then.A great singles band tho and I'll propably buy this.

lol Sounded is so funny - it's amusing to see someone put so much faith in such a bad, bad place! He/she applauds Keane for being original because "they don't use guitars"! Maybe if your ipod wasn't so full of shit music you would see the piano has been used for 40 years in music - so it's not original to use one. I just can't stand Keane's music, it's got no edge to it and I feel no empathy for a bunch of spoilt pricks whose music takes no chances and will be forgotten in 10 years time.

saulskipton

Aug 4, 2008

can I just say that keane are a great band who arent afraid to be different from other great bands. Okay sometime their music might sound depressing and the same but they are one of my favourite bands because they don't sound the same as all the other bands around at the moment which I have on my ipod. They also seem very passionate about their music and don't seemed to be bothered by the fact that they have people who hate their music. I loved both 'Hopes and Fears' and 'Under the Iron Sea' and I cannot wait until October 13th when probably the best album of the year will be released

Scottmmmm. Where do I start exactly? My ipod is full of the greatest bands in history such as The Beatles, The Who, The Jam, Oasis, Queen etc etc, and I don't know what planet your leaving on, but I would think Keane would be one from this decade along with Muse and Coldplay would will definantly be remembered. What kind of shit do you listen do, Foals? Interpol? Foo Fighters? Ting Tings? Absolutley fucking horrendously shit bands, Keane are gods lad, I'm off for a drink after seeing your tremendously shit user name I need one!
