Kelis responds to Nas' 'Life Is Good' album cover
Kelis insists that her personal reaction to her ex-husband's provocative new album cover is "irrelevant"
The cover art for 'Life Is Good' - due for release on July 17 - shows the rapper looking pensive as he sits with his ex-wife's green marital gown draped across his knee. Speaking to NME at this weekend's Isle of Wight festival, Kelis said: "You know, my feelings about it are not really relevant. At the end of the day, Nas is an artist and for whatever it's worth, he's one of the greatest, especially for what it is that he does." She added:
For someone in hip-hop to really be genuine and honest, whatever the honesty is about, I think it's awesome. My feelings about it aren't necessarily valid, but as an artist I can respect that he wears his feelings on his sleeve. I like that.
Kelis, 32, also revealed that she is "sort of midway" through work on her upcoming sixth album. Describing the sound of the record, her follow-up to 2010's 'Flesh Tone', she said: "I think it's probably more electro – a little deeper and darker."
The album is likely to feature a recent collaboration which Skream, which the singer described as "trip-hoppish in a strange way". She added: "I fell in love with [the track], so I wrote something to that and from there we were able to do some other stuff. He's great, he's awesome."
