Kids In Glass Houses at Sonisphere: 'Our new LP is set in a Mad Max world'

Welsh rockers explain the concept of third album 'In Gold Blood' at the metal festival

Kids In Glass Houses have explained the concept behind their forthcoming third album 'In Gold Blood', which is due for release in August.

Speaking to NME backstage at Sonisphere, singer Aled Phillips laid out the concept for the album: "It's kind of set in this Mad Max, kind of Warriors world where people are all reduced to their carnal instincts and desires and are at their most basic."

He continued: "There's two main characters, one's called Annie May, and the other is Gold Blood and it's narrated by them going on this journey. It's kind of an exaggerated version of my own life."

The singer also said that the band had been inspired by the success of My Chemical Romance's concept albums, but also by Bruce Springsteen's 'Born To Run'. He said: "I'm a massive fan of My Chemical Romance and I love their ambition and their drama, but we also took a lot from 'Born To Run', Bruce had this massive theatrical tip around then and we've taken a lot of that on board with 'In Gold Blood'.

The band had earlier played on the festival's Saturn Stage, with Aled Phillips bemoaning the driving rain throughout, telling the crowd: "Unfortunately it's started raining for the gayest band on the bill."

The Welsh rockers debuted two songs from 'In Gold Blood', with both the title track and new single 'Animals' played as part of the set. The band also played in costume for the first time, with Phillips clad in a top made of feathers, which he told NME makes "me feel powerful, like a power animal." The singer also introduced single 'Undercover Lover' as Frankie Goes To Hollywood's 'Relax' in tribute to The Saturdays' Frankie Sandford, who sings on the track on record.
