Kings Of Leon closed the first day (July 11) of Oxegen Festival, pulling in the biggest crowd of the day on the Main Stage.

The Followill clan topped the bill for the second time in two weeks following their recent Glastonbury headline slot.

Performing a similar set to the Worthy Farm show, the band kicked off their slot with new song 'Crawl' against a backdrop of fireworks, before rolling through a host of hit singles and crowd favourites from their three albums.

Throughout the show, the band sparked mass sing-a-longs, particularly during 'Because Of The Times' single 'Fans', which was greeted with huge cheers.

Introducing 'Arizona', frontman Caleb Followill, dressed in a black leather jacket, told the crowd: "You know it still feels like a dream playing shows like this and having so many people turning up like this. We still consider ourselves to be to be a small band but you guys make us feel so big."

Later, before a slower rendition of early single 'Molly's Chambers', the singer seemed overwhelmed by the audience's response.

"You guys are absolutely amazing so thank you all very much," he declared. "We have played a few festivals lately but I was really looking forward to this one and you guys are really pleasing me."

Many fans braved the cold night, which Caleb acknowledged as the band launched into hit single 'On Call'.

"I know its cold out there but I think warm weather is for pussies," he joked. "If you guys feel like singing along to this one it will warm me up a bit. This is one song you have got to sing along to."

The performance came a year after the band pulled in a massive audience during a rainy daytime slot on the same stage - following that show Oxegen festival-goers had voted Kings Of Leon as the band they most wanted to see return to the festival this year.

Acknowledging their step-up to headliners, Caleb Followill said: "What a wonderful night and what a beautiful crowd. You know one day I am going to relive all this stuff. Right now I'm just soaking it up. I'd like to thank you all for coming. We are Kings Of Leon."

The band finally wrapped up their set with 'Charmer' and 'Slow Night So Long'.

Kings Of Leon played:

'Black Thumbnail'
'Taper Jean Girl'
'My Party'
'Wasted Time'
'King Of The Rodeo'
'Four Kicks'
'Molly's Chambers'
'California Waiting'
'The Bucket'
