Kings Of Leon: 'We pick the songs Caleb hates as singles'
Band debuted new single 'Supersoaker' on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show last night (July 17)
"Pretty much any song Caleb hates is guaranteed a smash hit, a Grammy or a BRIT award," drummer Nathan claimed during an interview with BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe last night (June 16). Caleb himself then confirmed: "I'm the worst."
The band debuted their new single 'Supersoaker' during their interview with Zane Lowe and you can click to listen below. The single has a very similar title to 'Super Soaker', a track from Wavves' 2010 album 'King Of The Beach', something which hasn't escaped Wavves' attention.
"Hey @KingsOfLeon you'll never read this bc u pay someone to maintain yr twitter but i just wanted to say u suck," Wavves' Nathan Williams tweeted yesterday, before confirming that this comment was meant in jest. "Lol u guys i rly dont care abt new super soaker song i only jk we can all supr soak 2gether but still this is fun," Williams wrote in a follow-up tweet.
'Supersoaker' is the first track to be taken from Kings Of Leon's forthcoming new album 'Mechanical Bull', which is out on September 24. Bassist Jared Followill told NME in March of this year: "I thought we were going to make a really mature album but I'm amazed how youthful it sounds."
Since then, Jared has revealed that the album is "more musically complicated" than the band's previous efforts. In a Q&A with fans on Twitter last month (May 27), he also said the "vibe" of the record could be compared to their first two albums - 2003's 'Youth & Young Manhood' and 2004's 'Aha Shake Heartbreak' - but that the songs sounded like a "culmination" of all their previous work.
Before the album is released, the band will headline this summer's V Festival. Taking place over the weekend of August 17-18 at Hylands Park, Chelmsford and Weston Park, Staffordshire, the two-day event will see the band take to the main stage alongside fellow headliner Beyoncé.
