Klaxons’ gig at a tiny Southampton venue was nearly cut short last night (September 7) due to the over enthusiastic audience.
After performing signature tune ‘Atlantis To Interzone’ at nightclub Lennons, the band were forced to stop when an audience member pulled out a plug on the band’s effects pedals.
Speaking to NME.COM, guitarist and singer Simon Taylor said: “Basically we run everything off nine volt batteries and really cheap power supplies, and if one of them gets unplugged the entire thing goes down. Security were really worried about kids being crushed too.”
After asking the crowd to take a step back, the band were able to continue their set, performing tracks including ‘Gravity’s Rainbow’, and their usual cover of Grace’s ‘Not Over Yet’.
The band closed their 30-minute set with ‘4 Horsemen Of 2012’.
Taylor added: “All of our equipment collectively cost a couple of hundred pounds, so playing in a place like this with a pub PA is what we’re all about.
“That gig brought us back to the old days, when we first started playing in tiny venues with people going nuts, and the guitars being out of tune.”
Klaxons are set to perform at the Isle of Wight’s Bestival today (September 8), before hitting the US for two New York shows on September 19 and 21.
They will then join Shitdisco and Datarock for ShockWaves presents Club NME On Tour, which kicks off at Norwich Waterfront on September 27.
