Klaxons have come out in support of this year’s Mercury Prize winner Speech Debelle.

The former winners, who missed the ceremony due to playing the closing night of this year's Ibiza Rocks, have backed the artist, who had only sold 3,000 copies of her album ‘Speech Therapy’ before it won on Tuesday night (September 8).

"We couldn't be happier that Speech [Debelle] won this year," James Righton told The Daily Star. "To have a rank outsider like her win, it's reminiscent of us [winning in 2007] because nobody was expecting it. She totally deserves it."

Adding to the support, fellow vocalist and bassist Jamie Reynolds said: "It's a massive fuck off to big labels and I mean that from the heart!"
