Band split after four years as frontman launches solo career...

CRISPIAN MILLS has announced that he is leaving Kula Shaker - the band he formed in 1995 - to start a solo career.

There has been speculation about the future of Kula Shaker following the under-performance of second album 'Peasants, Pigs and Astronauts', though splitting the band completely is a radical move for Mills, who has apparently been writing a new set of songs since the release of the album.

Kula Shaker played their last shows when they made unscheduled appearances at V99 in Chelmsford and Staffordshire in place of Placebo, who cancelled at the eleventh hour.

Mills is quoted as saying of the split: "It's like the changing of the seasons."

He is still signed to Colombia records who released the two Kula Shaker albums 'K' and 'Peasants, Pigs and Astronauts'.
