Kula and the gang are back...

HAPPINESS IS A WARM MYSTICAL GUN
Kula Shaker have revealed details of a new single, 'Mystical Machine Gun', out on February 22 through Columbia, and full details of their long-awaited new album.

'Mystical Machine Gun' is backed with three new tracks - 'Guitar Man', 'Prancing Bride' and 'Holy River' - and is taken from their second album, 'Peasants, Pigs And Astronauts', due to be released on March 8.

The song was produced by Kula Shaker frontman Crispian Mills and Bob Ezrin, who's previously worked with Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, Alice Cooper and Kiss.

Meanwhile, the video for the new single was directed by Doug Nichol who's made promos for Aerosmith and Pulp. The single is the follow-up to March '98's 'Sound Of Drums' which reached Number Three in the UK charts.

To promote their new records, Kula Shaker will be playing a four-date residency at a tiny London venue on March 2-5, the location of which is being kept secret.

The band are also planning to play six low-key regional dates at small venues. Full details will be announced nearer the time on the relevant local radio stations around the UK.

Singer Crispian Mills said: "The band went very quickly from small venues to huge venues, which didn't give us much of a chance to be more intimate with our audience. We want to create a special atmosphere when we play, so these smaller shows will help us to do this."

Tickets for the residency shows will be available following an announcement in next week's NME and special guests for their live dates will be announced in the next couple of weeks.

Kula Shaker have spent the past year recording 'Peasants, Pigs And Astronauts', with much of the work being done on a boat moored on the Thames in London. It had the working title 'Strange Folk' and was produced in part by Bob Ezrin. The band also flew to Los Angeles to work on the album with producer Rick Rubin.
