HOLE LOTTA KURT!
The previously unheard [a]Hole[/a] recording features Cobain on backing vocals...
The downloads are available on the official Hole website, www.holemusic.com, and include covers of Bob Dylan's 'It's All Over Now Baby Blue', Nirvana's 'Pennyroyal Tea', Led Zeppelin's 'Whole Lotta Love', The Beatles' 'Dear Prudence' and The Lemonheads' 'Into Your Arms', as well as live versions of classic Hole songs and radio sessions.
But the rarest track made available is a three-minute demo of the Hole song 'Asking For It' with Love's ex-husband, former Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, providing backing vocals.
The track, which originally featured on the Hole album 'Live Through This' features Cobain singing slightly out of time throughout the duration of the chorus, and repeating the line: "If you live through this with me, I swear that I would die for you".Cobain committed suicide in April 1994, the same month 'Live Through This' was released.
Courtney Love has been outspoken in her support for Napster and MP3 in the past. Speaking on the subject at the Digital Hollywood Conference in New York earlier in the month she said: "There were one billion downloads last year but music sales are way up, so how is Napster hurting the music industry? It's not. The only people who are scared of Napster are the people who have filler on their albums and are scared that if people hear more than one single they're not going to buy the album...
"I want to work with people who believe in music and art and passion. I'm leaving the major label system. It's a radical time for musicians, a really revolutionary time, and I believe revolutions are a lot more fun than cash, which by the way, we don't have at major labels anyway, so we might as well get with it and get in the game."
Hole are due to enter a recording studio in October to work on the follow-up to 'Celebrity Skin'. Courtney Love has revealed that she has already written at least six new songs for the album, which isn't expected before 2001.
