The first official image from Kurt Cobain documentary Cobain: Montage of Heck has been released.

The picture above is taken from the Brett Morgen-directed film, which sees the Nirvana frontman's daughter Frances Bean Cobain acting as executive producer. The film premieres this week at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah and will be released in the UK in April. A press release for the movie states: "This first ever, fully-authorised doc feature blends Cobain's personal archive of art, music, written word, and never-before-seen home movies, with animation and revelatory interviews from his family and closest confidantes."

It was recently revealed that the documentary will be accompanied by a book delving further into the material from the film. The book, which shares its Montage Of Heck name, will be released at the same time as the film. A press release promises that the book will feature exclusive interviews featured in the film plus a mixture of animation stills, rare photography, and other images from Cobain's personal archive. Director Morgen will also contribute to the book.

The film will feature original and unheard music from the Nirvana frontman. Montage Of Heck is named after one of Cobain's mixtapes, which was circulated widely online in 2014. It features clips of songs by The Beatles, Iron Maiden, The Monkees, Black Sabbath, The Jackson Five and many more.
