KYLIE LIKELY!
The star is the bookie's favourite after the shortlist is announced in London...
Simon Cowell, who has sprung to fame in the UK as a judge on the 'Pop Idol' television show, named the 20 act shortlist this morning at the Hard Rock Cafe in London. Cowell said the Award, which is decided by a public vote after all the acts perform on television, was the one all chart acts wanted to win. "It's the most important show... after 'Pop Idol'," he joked.
Robbie Williams , with 'Eternity', was named as second favourite by bookmakers William Hill, sitting on 5/2, just behind Kylie's 6/4. S Club 7, at 7/1 with 'Don't Stop Movin'', Atomic Kitten, with 'Whole Again' at 8/1 and Hear'Say at 12/1with 'Pure And Simple' are also amongst the favourites. In a further dent to her battered career, Geri Halliwell has been named as a poor outsider at 50/1 with 'It's Raining Men'. Bob The Builder is at 25/1 with 'Mambo No.5'.
A preview of the Record of The Year nominees will be screened on ITV1 at 6.30pm (GMT) on December 2. The final will be screened on December 8 at 6pm on the same channel, after which viewers can vote for the winner. Popular presenters Ant & Dec will host both shows.
