Kylie Minogue's 'voice' makes West End debut

Singer records messages for 'Rent'

Kylie Minogue’s voice is to make its West End debut in the new production of musical ’Rent’.

Minogue has recorded a series of different answerphone messages for use in the West End show.

Minogue’s creative director William Baker also directed the new version of the musical. She is expected to attend the opening night tonight (October 15) at the Duke Of York Theatre.

Ewan Thomson, a spokesman for the theatre, said it was “a nice way for Kylie to get involved” in the show.

He added that only those who know it is Minogue’s voice would be able to identify the half a dozen recordings. In some cases her voice has been changed to sound more masculine.

He told BBC News: ”It started off as very much an ‘in’ thing between Kylie and William Baker and was a great way to get her involved in a small way. It is great to have Kylie on board, she was very kind to agree to do it."
