Lady Gaga has overtaken Britney Spears as the most followed person on Twitter.

As TechCrunch.com reports, Lady Gaga currently has 5,781,176 followers on Twitter.com/LadyGaga, while Britney Spears has 5,717,790 on Twitter.com/BritneySpears.

To celebrate Lady Gaga thanked her followers in a video, which you can see below.

"Thank you for beginning my reign as Twitter queen," she said. "May you always have soft cuticals whist tweeting and never have carpal tunnel [syndrome]."

The singer now officially has more followers than the likes of US president Barrack Obama (5,077,349), Justin Bieber (4,726,078), Coldplay (3,041,130) and Lily Allen (2,298,053).
