Lady Gaga is set to join a gay rights group for a march in the US today (September 20) to protest against the military's 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy.

The singer will lead the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network rally at Deering Oaks Park in Portland, Maine at 4pm (ET) in a bid to have the controversial law abolished.

Writing on her Twitter page she tweeted: "Meet me in Portland, Maine 2moro, 9/20 to help repeal #DADT. I'm holding a Rally + speaking live in Deering Oaks Park."

The current law forbids military recruiters from asking about people's sexual orientations and prohibits service members from revealing if they're gay.

Gaga is hoping to put pressure on a crucial Senate vote scheduled for tomorrow (September 21). The singer wants to put pressure on Republican senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins from Maine to vote to allow a repeal of the policy.

The pair are publicly undecided, and could each potentially provide Democrats the votes they need to bring the issue before the Senate, reports CNN.com.

Gaga will be accompanied at the rally by both gay and straight military veterans.

The star recently called on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to repeal the policy, and wore a meat outfit at the MTV VMA Awards to draw attention to her views on the policy.
