Lady Gaga has said that she is "married" to her loneliness.

The 'You And I' singer has said that she doesn't mind being a lonely person, as she is an artist, and therefore supposed to be alone in life.

During an interview on Indian chat show Most Desirable One, reports MTV, Gaga explained that she does feel lonely when touring but "I am supposed to be, I am an artist." She added: "We wallow in loneliness and solitude our whole lives in search of the answer to hundreds and millions of questions that run through my mind."

The 'Edge Of Glory' star continued:

Yes I'm lonely, but I'm married to my loneliness. I would die without it and I could never be reborn.

Lady Gaga will be opening the 2011 MTV VMAs ceremony this weekend. She recently stripped off in a trailer for her performance at the event, which takes place at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on August 28.

In the 45-second teaser video, which you can view below, the 'Born This Way' singer plays her new single 'You And I' on a piano, while taking off her bra at the same time.

The ceremony will be broadcast on August 29 in the UK and will see performances from Lady Gaga, Adele and Bruno Mars.

Katy Perry, Adele and Kanye West lead the field in this year's nominations.

Perry has nine nods while Adele has seven nominations for her single 'Rolling In The Deep'. Lady Gaga, Eminem and Beyonce are also up for three awards each respectively, reports MTV.com.

Elsewhere, Foster The People are also up for two nominations - Best Rock Video and Best New Artist for the video for their single 'Pumped Up Kicks'.
