Lady Gaga, Coldplay, Arcade Fire lead MTV Europe Music Award nominations

Plus there are nods for The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, Kings Of Leon and Red Hot Chili Peppers

Lady Gaga has been nominated for six gongs at this year's MTV Europe Music Awards.

The 'You And I' singer's haul includes Best Video for 'Born This Way' and Biggest Fans - a new gong which will be awarded to the most passionate fanbase for a particular artist. Gaga will also battle with Katy Perry for the Best Live, Best Pop and Best Female EMAs.

Coldplay, Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chili Peppers complete the shortlist for the Best Live Act. All three bands are also up for the Best Rock gong along with Linkin Park and Kings Of Leon. Coldplay are also up for Best UK & Ireland Act along with Adele, Florence And The Machine, Jessie J and Kasabian.

Meanwhile, Arcade Fire have received two nods - Best World Stage and Best Alternative. Completing the latter are Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes, My Chemical Romance and 30 Seconds To Mars.
