Barack Obama admits he was 'intimidated' by Lady Gaga

The US president met the singer at a fundraiser for his re-election campaign

Barack Obama has spoken out about his first encounter with Lady Gaga and admitted he found the meeting "intimidating", despite being one of the most powerful men in the world.

According to ABC News, the president made the comments while addressing an audience at the annual Human Rights Campaign Gala in Washington DC on Saturday (October 1). During the address he told the predominantly gay and lesbian crowd:

I held some productive bilateral talks with your leader. She was wearing 16-inch heels. She was eight feet tall. It was a little intimidating.

The president met the star at a fundraiser for his re-election campaign. Beforehand, Gaga had spoken about wanting to discuss the problem of teen bullying in the wake of the suicide of 14-year-old fan Jamie Rodemeyer.

The gay New York teenager killed himself after years of harassment over his sexuality. Gaga tweeted:

I am meeting with our President. I will not stop fighting. This must end. Our generation has the power to end it. Trend it #MakeALawForJamey.

She added:

The past days I’ve spent reflecting, crying, and yelling. I have so much anger. It is hard to feel love when cruelty takes someone’s life. Bullying must become be illegal. It is a hate crime.
