Gaga's casting was confirmed by Rodriguez on Twitter last night (July 26). The director posted: "I just finished working with @LadyGaga on @MacheteKills , she kicked SO MUCH ASS! Holy Smokes. Blown away!"

The singer also tweeted about the role, writing: "Yes its true, I will be making my debut as an actress in the amazing Machete Kills by @RODRIGUEZ I'M SO EXCITED!!! AH! Filming was insane."

Machete Kills is shooting now for a 2013 release. Danny Trejo, Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez will all reprise their roles from the first Machete movie, while Mel Gibson, Charlie Sheen and Vanessa Hudgens will also star alongside Gaga.

Lady Gaga filmed her part during a five-week break from her 'Born This Way Ball' tour. The tour will begin again in Sofia, Bulgaria on August 14, before making its way to the UK for a pair of dates at Twickenham on September 8 and 9 and a third show at the Manchester Arena on September 11.
