Lady Gaga is reportedly looking to buy Edith Piaf's toenail clippings.

Gaga is a huge fan of the late French singer and is spending her money on items belonging to Piaf, including clothes, shoes, perfume bottles, private letters and, bizarrely, bits of toenail.

The 'Bad Romance' singer's representatives are also reportedly in negotiations with Piaf's estate about buying the rights to her first filmed performance, and are in talks with EMI about purchasing nine of her songs.

According to The Sun, the tracks will likely be sampled on Gaga's next album and the footage will be used for a subsequent tour following the release of the singer's third record.

A source told the newspaper: "Gaga sees a lot of herself in Edith. She, too, was a rebellious character in her era. There's an awful lot of red tape to get through — it's a complicated process. But she's hoping the Piaf estate want to ensure, with her help, that the music can be introduced to a new audience. Considering the size of Gaga's global following, Edith's music will gain a huge new fanbase."

Last weekend, Lady Gaga visited Julian Assange at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, after an invitation from MIA. The singer visited the Wikileaks founder, who is currently exiled in the embassy after being granted political asylum, after a trip to department store Harrods to launch her perfume Fame.
