Mitch Winehouse has said that Lady Gaga would be a "great" choice to play his daughter, Amy, in a biopic of her life.

Speaking to Heat, the late singer’s father confirmed that a film of his daughter’s life would definitely happen, and tipped the 'Born This Way' star to take on the title role.

"There will be a biopic," he said. "Lady Gaga is welcome to audition for the part of Amy – she would be great. Ray Winstone will probably end up playing me.

Gaga has been linked with a role portraying Winehouse on the silver-screen before. In August last year, a Hollywood insider said that she was desperate to land the role as she "worshipped Amy" and "would love nothing more than to transform herself into her idol on the big screen".

The source added: "She'd be spot on performing Amy's songs and has got the right look and bolshy attitude...Gaga's been itching to make the transition from music into movies and sees this as the ideal role to launch her film career. Gaga's management team had been discussing possible film ventures before Amy's untimely death. But there’s only ever been one role she wants and that’s to play Amy."

Gaga may have her hands too full to make the leap to Hollywood just yet, however – over the weekend (December 1), she claimed to have written 50 songs for her new album, ‘ARTPOP’, which is due for release next year. It's also been suggested by sources close to Gaga that 'ARTPOP' is behind schedule due to hectic touring commitments and promotional duties.
