Lady Gaga wants the "craziest songs" for her forthcoming new album 'ARTPOP', according to a producer working with her on the record.

Producer Zedd has been in the studio with the singer and, in an interview with Digital Spy, he said that the pair had been working on something "unique" and had not been concerned with writing material purely to please her fanbase.

Zedd, whose real name is Anton Zaslavski, said that there was "no set genre" or "song length" for sessions and that he was "not afraid to show her the least commercial idea I have".

He said: "She wants me to do the craziest songs I can possibly do. I'm not thinking about fitting a shoe on the right foot. We're doing something completely unique and what we think is new. She's not been saying, 'You need to please my fans so make the songs sound like this', we've just made music."

He went on to add: "She has a certain way of writing and she likes it to be challenged on the production."

Lady Gaga is expected to release 'ARTPOP' later this year. She is currently part of an ongoing court case in which her former assistant Jennifer O'Neill is suing her for $380,000 (£243,000) in unpaid wages.

O'Neill alleged that Gaga expected her to be at her service from the "earliest waking hour" and wanted her duties to extend to "stadiums, private jets, fine hotel suites, yachts, ferries, trains and tour buses". She also alleges that the schedule meant that she was unable to take breaks "or even at times sleep".

Gaga has since said that she would rather give the money to another member of her team who is currently suffering from breast cancer. "She doesn't deserve a dollar more. I'm going to give all the money she wants to my employees that work hard for me and deserve it," she said.

She added: "I am going to give it to Sonja for her breast cancer, for her mastectomy. I'm not going to give it to [Jennifer] so she can go and buy a new tube top."
