Lady Gaga revealed what is being described as the world's first flying dress at her 'ARTPOP' album launch gig earlier today (November 11).

The US pop star held the 'artRave' event, a combination of concert and release party, which took place in New York and included a live set from Gaga featuring all new songs from her forthcoming 'ARTPOP' album, released today.

During her performance, Gaga was lifted several feet off the ground by a contraption called Volantis.

Sky News reports that the battery-powered device, which features a flat disk and a moulded body suit, launched Gaga "around 20ft through the air before she landed in Brooklyn Navy Yard." Footage of Gaga testing the Volantis dress can be seen below.

'ARTPOP' was released in the UK today. A string of tracks including the piano-led, Rick Rubin-produced ballad 'Dope', 'Mary Jane Holland', the R Kelly collaboration 'Do What U Want' and singles 'Applause' and Venus' have already been revealed by the singer.

Meanwhile, it has recently been reported that Lady Gaga will become the first performer to sing in space. Gaga has said that fans will "find out if the rumours are true" during the 'artRave' event on Monday (November 11).
