Lady Gaga has spoken out on her love of heavy metal, and in particular for London legends Iron Maiden, adding that she'd prefer to be compared to the metal act than Madonna.

"They're one of the greatest rock bands in history, in my opinion," Gaga told CR Fashion Book, speaking of Maiden in an interview that will feature on their cover come early September. "Some people really don't know the importance of metal and the scope of it."

"Those guys were filling stadiums, and they still are. And it's because of the culture of the music, the poetry that's so powerful, that whenever the fans come together, they unite in the essence of what Iron Maiden is all about. I always used to say to people, when they would say, 'Oh, she's the next Madonna.' No, I'm the next Iron Maiden."

Gaga, who describes her music as 'jazz art pop punk', also tweeted an image in which she's wearing a 'Number of the Beast' t-shirt:

Gaga recently completed her 'Cheek to Cheek' tour. She had previously said that the follow-up to the jazz-influenced release - recorded with Tony Bennett - might be followed up by a Led Zeppelin-inspired rock recording.
