Lady Gaga has insisted that her new single 'Perfect Illusion' is not about ex-boyfriend Taylor Kinney.

The pop singer debuted 'Perfect Illusion' last week (September 9). It was co-written and co-produced by Gaga with Tame Impala's Kevin Parker as well as Mark Ronson and BloodPop, who produced Justin Bieber’s single 'Sorry'.

The song's chorus features Gaga singing "Mistaken for love, it wasn't love, it was a perfect illusion, you were a perfect illusion". Fans have speculated that the lyrics could be inspired by Kinney, the model and actor she met while shooting her 'You And I' video in 2011, whom Gaga became engaged to earlier this year before later breaking up with.

"I love Taylor so, so much and this song is not a hit out against Taylor," she told SiriusXM's Andy Cohen. "This song is just about... I'm sure not only feelings that I've had but that he's had, that my friends have had, my sister has in her relationship... it's a record about all of us. And I would never use my song or want to use the public to hurt anyone that I love so much."

Billboard reports that Gaga also discussed the meaning of 'Perfect Illusion' with another SiriusXM host, Sway Calloway, saying it's also about the "illusion that people have of me every day... and I think that that's transferred to everyone with social media".

"Now we all have these perfect illusions that we get to create on our different accounts and you feel like you've got to live up to that in real life," she explained.

Gaga has also collaborated with Beck, Father John Misty and Florence And The Machine singer Florence Welch on her new album, whose title and release date have yet to be announced.

"Me and Florence did a duet together," she revealed during her appearance on BBC Radio 1 last week. "I started to work on an idea for a song that I really wanted to do with a girl and you'll see why when you hear the music and what the song is about. She's really to me if not the best but one of the greatest vocalists in the world. She's incredible. I would say the same about the musicianship of Beck, of Father John (Misty), Kevin Parker and Mark Ronson."

The singer also revealed that the record is in its final stages and will be released later this year. You can listen to the interview in full here.

Lady Gaga made a surprise appearance at London's Moth Club over the weekend.
