Lady Sovereign detained in Australia
She takes to her Twitter account to explain spitting incident that led to her arrest
The singer, who is currently touring Australia, spent the night in a jail cell after she became embroiled in a spat at the Beat nightclub, a popular gay venue in the city's Fortitude Valley, reports Billboard.
Lady Sovereign was thrown out of the venue in the early hours of the morning and charged later that day after pleading guilty to assault and being drunk and disorderly. She was fined $400 Australian (£217), and ordered to pay $200 (£108) compensation to the bouncer.
Writing on her Twitter.com/LadySov page after the altercation, Lady Sovereign said that she had been provoked, and lambasted police for arresting her.
"Brisbane police need to go catch some REAL criminals.....what a waste," she Tweeted. "Spitting in someone's face is nasty, but how about a guy dressed up as a girl running at you in the toilets and punching you in the head?"
She later added: "Everyone please stop calling me nasty, if you was there you would understand."
Talking about the arrest, magistrate Brendan Butler said that spitting had "serious health implications".
