Lana Del Rey has revealed the significance of Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont, the castle-like hotel on Sunset Boulevard which features in the video for Del Rey's debut single 'Video Games'.

Last week Lana Del Rey played an intimate show at the legendary Los Angeles hotel (December 8), as part of the Mulberry Mix Tape Tour. Scroll down to see her performing 'Born To Die' from the set.

In an interview by the swimming pool in the courtyard of the iconic building for the English fashion label, Del Rey said the Chateau Marmont was "a place that's inspired so many of my videos and influenced a lot of my visuals." She added:

I knew in my in my video for 'Video Games' I wanted to feature different clips of the Chateau because it was one of the most beautiful places that we had seen in Hollywood… I actually started with the footage from here and then started collecting my other footage for the video based on... the energy and colours I found from vintage clips of the Chateau...

The singer songwriter also said that her homemade videos started out soundtracked by classical music. "When I first started making videos I was originally collecting vintage clips of exotic places that I considered to be beautiful and inspiring and started setting it to classical music," she revealed. "And then I eventually started setting those clips to my own music and slowly splicing myself in, turning them into music videos."

The Chateau Marmont show followed a sold out gig last week at The Troubadour in Los Angeles and saw Del Rey perform to a small, seated crowd that included actresses Kate Bosworth, Alice Eve and Juno Temple as well as presenter Cat Deeley. Dressed in a floor-length sheer gown, and accompanied by a grand piano and guitar, Del Rey sang five songs, introducing the track 'Million Dollar Man' as 'my favourite one'.

Del Rey will release her debut album 'Born To Die' on January 30, 2012.
