Late Of The Pier's Sam Eastgate has revealed that he is to launch a new side-project.

The frontnan told NME.COM that the project will see him team up with an as-yet unnamed drummer for live shows in Japan, before they perform in the UK.

"It's a project I've always wanted to do – a two-piece band," he explained. "Me and this person [new bandmate], we're both kind of drummers. Some of the early shows will be in Japan around spring. Then we'll be coming over this way."

Eastgate added that despite releasing new songs 'Blueberry' and 'Best In The Class' as low-key singles, Late Of The Pier are unlikely to release a new album in 2010.

"I think there'll be a couple of stop-gaps," he said. "We're going to have to make sure we don't forget our fans and people by giving them the best thing we can every once in a while."
