LCD Soundsystem have announced they will retire after playing a final gig later this year.

James Murphy's band will play at New York's Madison Square Garden on April 2, after which they will be "retiring from the game, gettin' out, movin' on".

In a statement posted on their official website, Lcdsoundsystem.com, the band hinted they will include new or previously unheard material on the setlist at the "best funeral ever".

"For just one more night, we will be playing with friends and family for nearly 3 hours – playing stuff we’ve never played before and going out with a bang - and we’d like you to be there," they said.

The band also revealed that New York post-punk band Liquid Liquid, who reformed in 2008, will be supporting at the gig.

However, the statement did not mention whether Murphy will record any more material as LCD Soundsystem.

After previously stating that 'This Is Happening' would be their final studio effort, last year Murphy suggested that the band may continue to make music in some capacity.

"We'll still be making LCD Soundsystem music and stuff; we just need to go back and have it be a part of our lives rather than our whole lives," he told Thequietus.com.
