LCD Soundsystem played a secret hometown show in New York’s Webster Hall venue last night (April 12), the second of two work-in-progress gigs marking the band’s return to the live circuit.

The previous secret show took place on Thursday (April 8) at the smaller Music Hall Of Williamsburg venue in Brooklyn. At the New York gig frontman James Murphy pleaded with gig-goers not to leak the band's forthcoming new album - should they have an advance copy.

Murphy unveiled his new seven-piece band featuring core members Nancy Whang (keyboards) and Pat Mahoney (drums) plus Tyler Pope of !!! (bass) Gavin Russom (keyboards), David Scott Stone (guitar) and Matt Thornley (percussion).

The group spent most of the show refamiliarising themselves with songs from the first two LCD Soundsystem albums but also played three songs from the forthcoming third full-length effort 'This Is Happening', including new single 'Drunk Girls'. Also aired were new tracks 'Pow Pow' – a throbbing disco number – and a more electro-based song named 'Change'.

Murphy engaged in plenty of between-song banter with the crowd, making an impassioned plea for fans and industry people to not leak 'This Is Happening' (due out May 17) onto the internet.

"If you got a copy of the record early and you feel like sharing it with the rest of the world, then please don't," he pleaded, even going so far as to get on his knees onstage, much to the delight of the 1,500 fans in the venue.

He added: "We spent two years making this record and we want to put it out when we want to put it out. I don't care about money – after it comes out, give it to whoever you want for free but until then, keep it to yourself."

The band continue on to the Coachella festival at the weekend before touring the UK at the end of the month.

LCD Soundsystem played:

'Pow Pow'
'Yr City's A Sucker'
'Us vs Them'
'Drunk Girls'
'Losing My Edge'
'All My Friends'
'Change'
'Tribulations'
'Movement'
'Yeah'
