Led Zeppelin, Bowie documentaries screen in LA

A celebration of 'rockumentaries' takes place this weekend

Led Zeppelin, The Who, Jimi Hendrix and David Bowie appear in documentaries that are screening this weekend during 'Rock Doc: A Celebration of Rock Documentaries' in Los Angeles.

The American Cinematheque is sponsoring the series, which will screen at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica.

Tonight's (August 31) double-feature includes D.A. Pennebaker's 1973 documentary 'Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars', which chronicles Bowie's final concert on the legendary Ziggy Stardust tour, and 1970's 'Led Zeppelin Live at the Royal Albert Hall'.

On tap for tomorrow (September 1) are two legendary rockumentaries including director Michael Wadleigh's cut of the Oscar-winning 'Woodstock', featuring The Who, Hendrix and Crosby, Stills & Nash.

Also screening tomorrow is a newly restored version of Pennebaker's 'Monterey Pop', with performances from Janis Joplin, Hendrix and The Who.
