Led Zeppelin reunion: Dave Grohl praises Jason Bonham

Drummer lives up to his dad’s reputation

Led Zeppelin reunion: Dave Grohl praises Jason Bonham
Jason Bonham’s drumming with Led Zeppelin on Monday (December 10) has earned high praise from one of the world’s best sticksmen.

Bonham took over the drum stool from his father John, who died in 1980, for the reunion gig at the O2 Arena in London.

His work behind the kit went down well with the shows audience, including Foo Fighters’ frontman and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl.

“That was amazing,” Grohl told The Sun. “Jason Bonham was fantastic on drums. I think he was even better than me.”

It is high praise, not only because of Grohl's work with Nirvana and Queens Of The Stone Age on drums, but when a Led Zeppelin reunion was last suggested in the 1990s it was Grohl who many expected to fill in for John Bonham.

Indeed, when Grohl spoke to NME.COM just after the reunion announcement, he was still prepared to offer his services if Jason Bonham was not free.

"I am at their beck and call, but Jason should be the one," he explained. "It should be Jason and everyone knows that, it should be Jason. And Jason’s a fucking phenomenal drummer, you know? And he’s a really sweet guy, he’s a really good guy. They seem like a family, they feel like a family that have been around for a long time."

Grohl added he would love a chance to drum with Led Zeppelin.

He admitted: "If I got that call what the fuck do you think? I’d be saying ‘Hey (Foo Fighters bandmates) Chris and Taylor, lets take a little break for a few days. I’ll see ya, I’ll put you on the guest list!’."
