The 2009 Grammy Awards gave US album sales a significant boost in the week following the February 8 ceremony.
Overall album sales increased more than 16 per cent last week, with big winners Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, who took home the Album Of The Year prize, benefiting the most. Sales of the Led Zeppelin frontman and country chanteuse's album 'Raising Sand' saw it move up from Number 69 on the US Billboard chart to Number Two.
Meanwhile, Coldplay, who performed at the Los Angeles ceremony and took home a handful of awards, moved from Number 31 to Number Eight on the chart, and Adele, who took home the Best New Artist trophy, climbed from Number 27 to Number 10 with her 2008 debut album '19'.
Meanwhile, sales of the 'Grammy Nominees 2009' compilation featuring Coldplay, Radiohead, MIA and Katy Perry increased 114 per cent, selling 61,000 copies last week and moving up the chart to Number Nine.
