The singer's version of 'Run' has been downloaded around 70,000 times

Leona Lewis' new single, a cover of Snow Patrol's 'Run', has become the fastest-selling digital-only track in the UK.

The song has been downloaded around 70,000 times since it was made available as a digital single on Sunday (November 30), reports BBC News.

The tune has surpassed the previous record-holder, Estelle's 'American Boy', which was downloaded 51,857 time in its first week of sales.

As previously reported, Lewis' cover of 'Run' was not initially intended to be released as a single, with the singer's record label, Sony, then accused of attempting to cash in by tagging it on to a reissue of her 2007 debut album, 'Spirit'.

'Run' reached Number 5 in 2003 when first released by Snow Patrol, and their version has also recently returned to the UK singles chart on downloads alone.

The song is likely to be Number One in the UK singles chart on Sunday (December 7). Check NME.COM at around 7pm (GMT) to find out if Lewis makes the top spot.

this is another Leona record which i think is undeserved. First of all she breaks the fastest selling debut album record (Arctic Monkeys), but she did have a single out 8 MONTHS prior to the album coming out (whereas Arctics was about a week). Now she breaks a download record with a song she doesn't even write.

steelersfan is so right true talent is being able to write songs and struggle to become noticed for years it is a totally undeserved record. i personally cant stand the song and in fact refuse to listen to it because it has completely ruined the version by snow patrol with her worbeling!!

I found this cover version uplifting compared to Snow patrol's original.Your right though- Leona will need start writing some music herself before the naysayers relinquish some respect. I see comments from folk who seem to be more embittered about the whole xfactor farce than the fact the this girl can sing-and sing really well. Take some feedback guys light up - right up. :P
