LEONARD COHEN PLAYS THE FIELD

The Canadian songwriting legend's first LP since 1992 is a live compilation...

LEONARD COHEN is set to release a new live album in the New Year, NME.COM has learned.

The album, 'Field Commander Cohen: Tour Of 1979' is distilled from performances in London's Hammersmith Odeon and Brighton's Dome Theatre. It will be released through Columbia in the UK on February 19 and a day later in north America.

It marks the first significant release for Cohen since 1992's studio album 'The Future'.

The period which 'Field Commander Cohen...' covers comes a little after the Phil Spector produced 'Death Of A Ladies Man' in 1977.

A spokesperson for Cohen was unable to confirm the exact tracklisting of the album but fans can expect to hear 'The Smokey Life', 'The Stranger Song' and 'So Long, Marianne'.
