Leslie Nielsen dies aged 84

'Airplane!' and 'Police Squad!' star passes away in Florida

Leslie Nielsen has died aged 84.

The actor passed away yesterday (November 28) in a hospital near his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, from complications arising from pneumonia.

Nielsen‘s family released a statement last night saying the wife and friends of the Canadian actor were at his side when he died, reports BBC News.

They said: “We are saddened by the passing of beloved actor Leslie Nielsen, probably best remembered as Lt Frank Drebin in The Naked Gun series of pictures, but who enjoyed a more than 60-year career in motion pictures and television.”

The much-loved Nielsen appeared in over 100 movies, often ‘spoof’ comedies, including Airplane!, The Naked Gun plus TV series Police Squad!.

He also appeared in some of televisions most iconic shows, including M*A*S*H, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Columbo and Murder, She Wrote.
