Lil Wayne has been named 'Top R&B/Hip-Hop artist' by Billboard magazine.

The rapper released 'Tha Carter IV' earlier this year, which went straight to the No 1 on the US albums chart and sold almost a million copies during its first week of release.

Lil Wayne also racked up four number-one singles, and had an impressive 24 chart entries on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart during a year in which he also performed for 712,000 people in 69 arena shows.

Lil Wayne’s total gross for touring in 2011 was $46,300,000.

Nicki Minaj came second on the poll, largely due to the success of her debut 'Pink Friday', which spent six weeks at the top of the charts and produced a further six Top 10 singles.

Minaj was also named the Top Rap artist by Billboard, beating Lil Wayne, Drake and Kanye West.

Chris Brown, Miguel and Wiz Khalifa also featured highly in the end-of-year list.
