Teacher suspended for using Lil Wayne lyrics in homework assignment
The uncensored lyrics for '6 Foot 7 Foot' were handed to students as part of an English class in Florida
The English teacher at the Charter School of Boynton Beach reportedly gave eighth grade pupils (age 13-14) uncensored lyrics to the rapper's 2010 single, '6 Foot 7 Foot' and asked them to find examples of figurative language. WPTV reports that the teacher has been suspended for three days over the incident.
The school's headmaster Wayne Owens said in a statement: "The lesson was for students to learn to identify literary devices. The teacher had already introduced Edgar Allen Poe and Shakespeare. Students were having difficulty grasping the concepts of literary devices such as: pun, simile, metaphor, so the teacher used colloquial material. This material did not meet the school's standards and was not approved. The teacher recognizes that it was totally inappropriate for a school assignment."
Lil Wayne last year revealed that epilepsy was the cause of a run of seizures that put him in hospital. The rapper, who released his last album 'I Am Not A Human Being II' in March 2013, said he has seizures often enough that the people around him are experienced in dealing with them when they occur. "They already know how to handle it," he said. "Certain times I don't even go to the hospital, but this time, it was real bad because, like I said, it was three in a row, and I've never had three back to back like that."
