Lily Allen: 'I am not pro-cocaine' Lily Allen Tickets

Singer reacts to drug charity criticism after interview comments

Lily Allen has declared she does not condone drug use, after it was claimed comments she made in an interview endorsed cocaine.

The singer has been the subject of a flurry of online reports saying she was condoning use of the drug, and even incurred the wrath of anti-drugs campaigners.

In the interview with The Word magazine she said: "The only [newspaper] story is that drugs are bad and they will kill you - I know lots of people that take cocaine three nights a week and get up and go to work every day, no problem. But we never hear that side of the story."

She did add, however, that she had "no statement" to make on the issue, and no longer takes drugs.

Reports of those comments drew criticism from the likes of the National Drugs Prevention Alliance, who suggested her comments were "harming young people who will at some point in their lives have to make a decision about taking drugs" and drug and alcohol treatment charity Addaction, who said her comments were "misguided".

Reacting to the reports, Allen has issued a further statement this morning (January 8), hoping to clear up her position on the issue.

"Lily Allen would like to state unequivocally that she does not condone illegal drug use and has every sympathy with individuals and families whose lives have been blighted by drugs," explained the statement, adding that her new album's opening song 'Everyone's At It' dealt with both "legally prescribed drugs like anti-depressants" as well as illegal substances.

Why does Lily Allen keep coming out with these controversial comments about drugs? In 2006 she talked about K-holes in NME and when she was asked how she'd celebrate her (only) No.1 she said "gak". When will she realise that you can make funny comments that don't insult people or give the press the wrong idea about her?

she's right though - taking drugs won't instantly kill you/drive your family away/make you homeless, despite what the papers may say - they're actually a bit of a laugh

Unfortunately Lily, I know people who have had their lives destroyed by cocaine. Difference between you and them is that they have lost their careers and their families through it. People lilke you have no "job" and all the wealth in the world to get help with!

she is pro-fucking stupid though!! "we never hear that side of the storey", no shit!! Only someone completely deluded and detacted from real life would say that in a magazine interview. I feel sorry for her, she is a pathetic excuse for a human being! and a shite musician!

Just bacause "everyone's at it" doesn't necessarily make it right. Cocaine may be a bit of a laugh for some, but it certainly isn't for others i.e. the drug mules and farmers who are readily exploited to make vast sums of cash for some very nasty people. Not to mention the fact that it seems to suck everything that's positive out of people. Each wrap should read - Cocaine - a s**t drug for vacuous sheep! baaaah!

"Why does Lily Allen keep coming out with these controversial comments about drugs?" To keep herself in the fucking news of course! Since her music is utter shite all she has left is to be 'controversial'

Lily made a fair point. Kids are told nothing except for the horrors of drugs and when they experiment and have a different experience to what they have been told to expect, they simply dismiss all the anti drug propaganda as rubbish.A lot of people take drugs and hold down jobs and relationships and are living pretty normal lives (depending on the severity of habit, type of drug, type of personality etc.) and then a lot of people do find themselves living in the middle of a nightmare. The drug issue is not black and white and people need to be educated so that they can see that if they take a line of cocaine, that while they might not develop a problem right away, it may come 5 or 6 years down the line as is often the case.

Heath Ledger,Kurt Cobain,Darby Crash,Brad Nowell,River Phoenix,Anna Nicole Smith,Sid Vicious,Dee Dee Ramone,Chris Farley,Steve Clark,Elvis Presley and more thought drug were fun. I don't understand why so many die every year and more "line up" everyday. Just ask Amy Winehouse.

Young people will at some point make decisions about drug use which is down to individuality and peer pressure not via the mouth of a talentless middle class twat!!...oh by the way wonder when her new album is out!!!!!
