Lily Allen says she 'doesn't have the right to judge people about drugs'

Lily Allen has said that she does not have the "right" to judge people about drug use.

This morning (January 8) Allen's record company released a statement saying she did not condone drug use following controversial comments regarding cocaine use, which were condemned by drugs charities.

In an exclusive NME.COM video interview, which you can watch by clicking below, the singer said she did not see herself as an authority on the subject.

"It's such a big thing, drugs, such a taboo subject," she said. "Maybe it is just me and the environment I've grown up in, but literally everyone I know is on drugs, or has been.

"I haven't got a right to tell people to ease up on their views on it, or that taking drugs is a good thing or a bad thing. I'm not well-educated enough on the subject, but I can observe what I see, and that's what I've done."

I couldn't agree more with Lily, nobody really has the right to tell anybody what to do with their own lives. I am also in the same position in a way that near enough everyone I know is on drugs or has been.

What a huge fuss this has whirled up! Nothing to do with the fact that she's finally releasing new material in, what...hold on, less than 3 weeks??? Gosh, what a stunning coincidence that she's in the spotlight for controversial comments at the same time as her new single comes out! My my, the Lord does work in mysterious ways hey.....

I agree with what's above, Lily Allen wrote next to nothing on her myspace blog for months and now she's got an album coming out she's suddenly started doing it again, such a publicity tool rather than a way to keep in touch with fans

Lily Allen is always in the spotlight, that's just the way things go for her. In my opinion, it is just a coincidence that this has happened when her album is about to come out. She could have made these comments at any time. She was in the media spotlight loads last year when she didn't have any records coming out at all. Also, her myspace blog has been empty since Christmas, so that's really got nothing to do with it. Plus I think it's always been made clear that Lily Allen is a frequent myspace user, likes keeping in touch with her fans and doesn't use it to gain publicity from the press.

Actually, she did have singles out last year. & the only blogs she's had recently are the ones talking about that new album. Just to be clear, I love Lily Allen! I just don't get how people can still be so naive about this sort of publicity.....
