Lily Allen, Noisettes, Goldie Lookin Chain and The Wombats play V Staffordshire

Bands get the party started on Day 2 at Weston Park

Lily Allen got the V Stage crowd at V Festival Stafford in the party spirit this afternoon (August 23), playing a hit-laden set on the V Stage that included the likes of 'Littlest Things', 'LDN', 'Not Fair' and 'Smile'.

Wearing a see through top showing her black bra, Allen teased the Stafford audience about their Chelmsford counterparts (she played the site yesterday) before a singalong version of her first UK Number One single, 2006's 'Smile'.

"I needed to tell those moody fuckers last night, but you lot look like you've got it," she said. "But just in case you haven't, please, everybody just smile!"

Ahead of playing 'He Wasn't There', Allen went off the stage briefly to have a smoke. "I just went to the side to have a bit of a fag...because they don't let you smoke onstage. Urgh!" she said, before playing the track.

Kicking off proceedings on the V Stage, McFly drew a vast crowd to see them run through a set relying largely on their singles. However, the boyband surprised many in the audience by airing a cover of Beastie Boys' '(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)' towards the end of their well-received set.

Later Starsailor took to the same stage to perform fan favourites 'Alcoholic' and 'Good Souls'.

Over in the Virgin Media Union tent Goldie Lookin Chain whipped up the crowd with fan favourites Guns Don't Kill People Rappers Do', 'Your Missus Is A Nutter and 'Your Mother's Got a Penis'.

At one point Eggsy urged one of the girls in the crowd to get "her tits out" while Dwain Xain told the throng to bunch together while he took a picture.

Over on the 4Music stage The Wombats got the crowd moving to 'Kill The Director' and 'Let's Dance To Joy Division'.

Kicking off the afternoon were Noisettes, who attracted early revellers for an uplifting set that included 'Wild Young Hearts' and breakthrough hit 'Don't Upset The Rhythm (Go Baby Go)'.

As the band rounded off their performance with the latter, singer Shingai Shoniwa said: "That was fucking amazing. This is our first time in Staffordshire. You guys have been splendicious."
