Lily Allen: 'I won't release another album' Lily Allen Tickets

Singer says she won't be renewing her record contract

Lily Allen has confirmed that she does not plan to release another album and will not be renewing her record contract.

The singer, writing on her blog, It's Not Alright, said that she would not be renewing her deal with her label, EMI. Earlier this month Allen said she was considering a career in acting following her last live music commitments. She has since taken down the blog.

Writing about illegal file-sharing and her campaign to encourage people to stop doing it, she wrote, "Just so you know, I have not renegotiated my record contract and have no plans to make another record. I do however remain a fan of new music, so this is not some selfish crusade.

"The days of me making money from recording music have been and gone as far as I'm concerned, so I don't (at this point) stand to profit from legislation [from the government regarding file-sharing]. Except future purchases of previously recorded material (which won’t be much)."

Allen's spokesperson said that the singer, who has tour dates booked until mid-December, was not completely stepping away from music. "She is not quitting pop music," he told NME.COM. "She is not thinking about her next album right now because she is still in the middle of promoting her current record."

Lily Allen set up the downloading-related blog to compile responses from musicians with regard to her campaign. Artists including Radiohead's Ed O'Brien, a member of the Featured Artists Coalition, have come out in support of her.

This is the great thing about filesharing. People in it for the music stay, people in it for the fame

Greedy bitch, spoken like a true artist, a real inspiration to the thousands of musicians out there who survive on peanuts for the sake of their art and the fulfilment that it brings! fantastic news whatever the reason!

From TorrentFreak:While she’s trying to point out how much damage ‘pirates’ do to the music industry she blatantly infringed the copyrights of a number of newspapers by posting scanned articles. To make things even more absurd Techdirt discovered that Lily is pirating music herself by offering some unauthorized mixtapes (tape 1 and tape 2) on her website LilyAllenMusic.com. The tracklist of one of the mixtapes reveals a list of no less than 19 unauthorized tracks. This means the RIAA can easily sue her for millions. Please Lily, explain to us why it is okay for you to copy, paste and pirate others work, while you label people who do the same as thieves? Are we missing something here, or do you really think that copyright is limited to your own music? What about the poor people working at the newspapers who might lose their job because you are pasting scanned articles online? Not to mention the poor artists that ended up on your mixtape who’s lives are ruined because of your selfish actions.

Great news! I'm sure there are plenty of roles that her old man has turned down. I look forward to seeing her portray 'Mouthy Best Friend' in some shitty Brit Flick.

if only it meant she would vanish from the public eye too, I would be happy. Be alas, I fear we'll have to put up with her endless inane bollocks for years to come.

Bobby Ewing actually hit on a really good point. Obviously everybody has bills to pay in order to survive and has every right to make money from what they do, but the economic hardship element really does weed out those people who are in it for the wrong reasons.

This just shows a lack of passion for music. Is music just a hobby for her and now she is bored with it? I've always had suspicions about the extra help she has received as a result of her famous ties in her family. She'll try acting now.If she cares about smaller acts and file-sharing then fine. But this is a huge statement about the passion she has for her own music and systematic of people in the music business wanting fame or celebrity.

She will be a terrible actress. Her tv show was god awful - she just has no energy about her on screen.

Sep 25, 2009

Btw - personally I feel sorry for her right now – she’s taken a stand, its all gotten botched – and people are venting all kinds of resentments.I don't agree with her - unsigned bands like us work for a living to support our passion - never the less she doesn't deserve all the ire.

Has it ever occurred to her that she wasn't making money off recording music not because of file sharing, but because her music was rubbish? Hmm.

Why Is Every One So Bitter Towards Her?! Her Music Is Amazing, How Can You Say Bad Things About Her? She Battled Her Way Through So Much And Still Came Out With Plenty Of Hits And Number Ones Which Is More Than The Rest Of You Can Say For Yourselves. Seriously, Her Music Means So Much To So Many People, And To All The Haters You May Not Realize But This News Will Make People Break Down. Shes An Inspiration And Her Music Is Amazing. We Love You Lily :)
