Linkin Park: 'We'll take Muse's title of best live band in the world at Sonisphere'

Chester Bennington tells NME.COM the band are gearing up to 'kick some ass'

Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington has told NME.COM that he believes his band's headline slot at this year's Sonisphere festival provides them with the perfect opportunity to become the best live act in the world.

Bennington said the he thinks Muse are currently the band to beat in the live arena, but he's confident that Linkin Park will be able to equal the Devon trio's high standards when they headline the Sonisphere festival on August 1.

"They're one of the best - if not the best - live performing bands in the world at the moment," he said about Muse, adding "We need to fucking kick some ass."

The singer also singled out Metallica – who headline the second day of Sonisphere on August 2 – as friendly rivals, saying: "I think those kind of bands elevate you as a player. You either need to shoot up and show up or you need to put your tail between your legs and hope you get through it."

Taking place at Knebworth, Sonisphere features the likes of Nine Inch Nails, Bullet For My Valentine, Machine Head and Mastodon.

Referencing Knebworth's status for staging iconic concerts in the past by the likes of Oasis, Led Zeppelin and Queen, Bennington admitted that he feels the gig is a hugely important one for Linkin Park.

"There are definitely shows that either make or break you. And I do think [Sonisphere] could be one of those shows," he revealed.

"I know that it's [Knebworth] a legendary venue where legendary acts have played, from Zeppelin to Queen and many, many more. To perform there means you better show up with your kickass pants on."

The frontman also confirmed that Linkin Park will play new single 'The New Divide' at their Sonisphere gig. The band are currently in the studio with Rick Rubin, recording the follow up to 2007 album 'Minutes To Midnight'.

Now I'd rather chew a dry otter dipped in humus than listen to Muse, but this story did make me chuckle indeed.

Yes Linkin Park are great, and they're awesome live but they can't beat Muse no one can, their Wembley gig proved that and they always better themselves with every new tour, good to see their getting the recognition they deserve.

A Muse show can be topped live, but only by another Muse show. The ease with which they achieve musical perfection is spine-tingling! Roll on November!

Put Muse and Linkin Park in a boat just off the white cliffs of Dover and then sink it. Let them fight it out where they can't annoy anyone.

HaHa, keep dreaming my dear! Muse are hard to top at the best of times, but Linkin Park?! Having seen you before, I can tell you now, it'll never happen! Come back to us all when you sell out Wembley Stadium two nights in a row!

Actually I saw muse live at the end of 2007 and I have to say they didn't really do anything special. Their stage set was seriously cool, but they sorta just stood there and played... like 90% of other bands do. Now Slipknot - there's a good live band. Oh dear. I can't remember if I was being sarcastic or not...

Excuse me, since when are KISS not the greatest live band on the planet? Muse are amazing but KISS are un-freaking-believable. Yeah it’s theatrics, yeah it's money making but it’s 100% rock n f**king roll!! Linkin park are tossers.

I'm not a huge fan of Muse, and I don't like Linkin Park, but I'm intrigued as to Kenami's comment that Linkin Park don't write music? I'm pretty sure that Joe Hahn is a musical genius, whether we like it or not lol I don't recall them playing any covers recently?

It's a shame 80% of muse's songs are absolute s**t otherwise id choose them over LP!

Don't love or hate LP bt there gonna have to go through a good few more bands before they even come close to being as good as Muse plus t's nice too see them (Linkin Park) being gents about it and not being complete knobs.

This made me giggle slightly. however, I have seen LP live and they do give a cracking performance. But they've got nothing on Muse (unless they pull out a couple of oversized satellites out of their trousers and start writing better songs)

Muse aren't a real live band, they play to click tracks. It's disheartening that anyone would want to compare themselves to Muse in the live arena and even worse that Muse have awards for being "best live band". Backing tracks aren't live. For real live bands go see Aerosmith or Extreme. They blow Muse away and they're playing LIVE music.

Contradiction

Jun 26, 2009

No. Just no. Muse are real. They are talented. Three men can produce much better music than how ever many boys Linkin Park has. Muse>>>>>>>>>>>>>>LP.And at least Matt can stay in-key.

I agree with finnfinn, let both bands sink into the ocean. And ArcticMonkey, firstly the Arctic Monkeys are shite, secondly they only sold out two nights at Wembley not because they are good musicians, but because they have lots of mindless sheeplike followers that think they are cool for liking them.

LP are a great live act; so are Muse, but neither are the best act around at the moment. IMO the best live act is Nine Inch Nails; no-one puts more energy and effort into a show than Trent Reznor and he's been doing it for 2 decades to boot...

LP are an amazing live band, but NO band comes even close to Muse. Wembley solidified their place as the greatest live band in history. Linkin Park have the possibility of being second greatest, but there is a line between Muse and the rest of the world.

senzakhe

Jun 29, 2009

muse is probably the best live band but no one know who muse is but every one know linkin park in asia... and linkin park have sold estimate 60 million copy in 3 studio albums worldwide and muse have sold around 7 millions copy in 4 studio album worldwide .. so anyhow linkin park is much much better and the best selling band in 21 century ...

senzakhe

Jun 29, 2009

when muse sold 7 million copies in 4 studio album , linkin park sold 60 million albums in 3 studio albums ... they are a huge different band but honestly muse is the best live band in the world...

CombustionMan

lol! Linkin Park (or any other band) aren't anywhere near the almighty Muse. HAARP and Wembley make that a fact.

Jigga collaborated with Linkin Park in 2004 for a project called ‘Collision Course’. They won a Grammy for the track ‘Numb/Encore’, and performed it live with a special appearance from Paul McCartney adding verses from ‘Yesterday’. That would be a Glasto moment. Pic: PA Photos
