Live Earth's London leg kicks off

The London leg of Live Earth has kicked off this afternoon (July 7) at Wembley Stadium.

The event, one of seven concerts taking place around the globe today, has been organised by former US Vice President Al Gore to raise awareness about climate change issues.

Following the opening ceremony, which saw a supergroup of drummers featuring Foo Fighters' Taylor Hawkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers' Chad Smith and Queen's Roger Taylor backed by an orchestra of drummers called the SOS Allstars.

The group opened the event with a mass drum along while the big screens showed Wembley Stadium images of the environment from across the planet.

Reformed prog rockers Genesis are just set to take to the stage now, kicking off a host of performances that will see acts performing roughly 15 minute sets between now and end of the evening. Each performance will be introduced by a special guest.
