'Al Gore made me go green', says Razorlight

Documentary changed Johnny Borrell's life

'Al Gore made me go green', says Razorlight

Johnny Borrell admits he never took any interest in the environment until he saw Al Gore’s documentary ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ last year.

The Razorlight frontman, who was speaking ahead of his appearance at London’s Live Earth concert today (July 7), was so inspired by the former US Vice President’s thought-provoking, Oscar-winning film that he immediately became a staunch environmentalist and has never looked back.

“I’d never thought about it in my life until I saw Al Gore’s ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ last year. The next day I phoned Friends Of The Earth and said ‘Hi, my name’s Johnny Borrell and I’m in a band called Razorlight – is there anything we could do to help?’," he explained.

“Today is just an extension of that," he told BBC TV "We’re not going to go round telling people to change over to energy-saving lightbulbs or anything, but we’ve all made small changes in our lifestyles, and that’s half the battle.”

The series of events is part of a campaign by environmentalist and former US Vice President Al Gore to bring awareness to climate change.

NME.COM will be reporting live all day from Live Earth in Sydney, London and New York, bringing you live reports from the day's events.
