London Astoria campaigners to hold rally

Fans encouraged to join silent disco at doomed venue

London Astoria campaigners to hold rally

Organisers of a campaign aiming to ensure that a suitable replacement is built for the London Astoria are to hold a rally outside the venue this Saturday (March 28).

As previously reported, campaign organisers India Walker and Jenny Wong are lobbying for a fitting replacement venue for the Astoria, which was forced to close in January in order to make way for London's Crossrail transport project.

Billed as the 'Astoria's final send off', Walker and Wong say they want as many people to turn up as possible.

They want campaigners to bring their iPods with them in order to have a silent disco directly outside the venue, starting at 1pm (GMT).

Those going to the rally are asked to arrive by 12:45pm.

Over 100 people have confirmed themselves as attending so far, according to the event's official Facebook page.

The Astoria is due to be demolished before the end of March.

A campaign petition has now been signed by over 1,000 people, while the campaigners' official Facebook page has over 3,000 members.

For more information on the rally, see the official event page on Facebook.
